Interest in the VARAC's Fortieth Anniversary of Formula 1 at Mosport is growing every day. With entries starting to come in, it is apparent that there is going to be a strong Canadian flavor to the event. Most evident of these is the entry by Maurice McCaig, from Calgary Alberta, of his '77 Wolf WR4, originally driven by Jody Schecter. A Canadian in a Canadian Car, the only thing that could be better would be to have Villeneuve driving. While not yet confirmed there is a strong possibility that the sister car to WR4, now on exhibit in the museum of the Canadian MotorSport Hall of Fame, will be "freshened" and will take a place beside McCaig's car, bringing the two cars back together for the first time in many years.

The two Wolves, though are not the only Canadian content. Hamish Somerville, a very strong contender in the Historic Grand Prix series, is from Ottawa, Ontario and has confirmed he will be present with his '79 Williams FWOC7B. The ex - Alan Jones '77 Shadow, now owned by Grant Beath of Port Perry Ontario, and driven by his son Scott has also confirmed his entry. Making this a true anniversary celebration, the owner of the McLaren that Bruce McLaren drove to seventh in that inaugural Grand Prix is also entered. It is not expected to be the only car from the original race though, the owners of the race winning Brabham, and Jimmy Clark's Lotus are sorting out their schedules to see if they too can take part. While not a Formula 1 car, the present owner of the ex Peter Ryan Lotus 19, a car which has strong historical significance in Canada, will also be taking part, adding even more Canadian content.

Aside from a chance to drive on one of the Sport's Great tracks, the social aspect of the weekend promises to be great. The Friday night potluck supper hosted by the ladies of VARAC is always a much anticipated part of the weekend. Low key, lots of food and refreshment, it is a great way to meet fellow competitors and discuss the fast way through corner two. In the VARAC tradition, if one party is good, two are better, so Saturday evening features a banquet with Chicken and Ribs.

More track time than you can imagine, two great parties, great Canadian hospitality and a favorable exchange rate, this is surely a don't miss weekend. See you there!
