TWO HISTORIC FORMULA ONE CARS RETURN TO MOSPORT
FOR THE
FORTIETH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF FORMULA
ONE IN CANADA
The Vintage Automobile Racing Association of Canada (VARAC)
today announced that the McLaren/BRM driven to seventh place
in the 1967 Canadian grand Prix will be taking part in the Fortieth
Anniversary of the Canadian Grand Prix Celebrations. Now owned
by Bruce McCaw, the car made its maiden appearance at the 1967
Canadian Grand Prix. In a classic "if only" McLaren
could have won, but had decided to run without an alternator.
Perhaps, with it being a "wet" race and having to
have the running light on, it drew more current than was calculated,
but the battery went flat, and the time lost in fitting a replacement
put Mclaren back to seventh. Surely to be one of the stars of
the weekend!
Another F1 car returning to Mosport is the ex Ronnie Peterson
STP March. Scott Brader is now the proud owner and is enthused
about the car returning to Mosport. In the 1971 race, run under
appalling conditions, Peterson passed Jackie Stewart on the
seventeenth lap to take the lead, but in conditions Stewart
was later to describe as "the slipperiest he had ever driven
on", he spun, giving the lead back to Stewart. In the rain
shortened race he finished a very creditable second.
Here in Canada there has been a groundswell of support for
the Reunion to be held at Mosport June 22-24 2007. It promises
to be the event of the year. For the present owners of the Historic
Formula One cars this is a "don't miss" opportunity,
especially when you consider that two weeks after the Mosport
event the Historic Grand Prix cars will be at Watkins Glen and
a week later at Mont Tremblant. This is a fantastic opportunity
to drive these cars on three of the most historic F1circuits
in North America in the space of a month.
